How To Dose CBD

8th November 2021

Everything you need to know about dosing CBD for maximum wellbeing.

Introduction
As the French saying goes: it's all about the dosage. Like with any other substance, we all react differently to cannabinoids and it’s important to find the right amount of CBD for you. Here are a few important references to help you navigate on this journey, starting with the three types of quantities: microdose, standard dose, and macro dose.
Micro dosing CBD
Micro-dosing is one of the most common ways to benefit from CBD, as 0.5 mg to 20 mg of CBD allows the therapeutic effects of the plant without experiencing a “high.” It’s generally recommended for anxiety, migraine, sleep disorders, stress as well as being considered as a dietary supplement.
Standard dosage of CBD
A standard dose of 10 mg to 100 mg per day is recommended for alleviating pain, inflammation, anxiety, certain symptoms of autism, multiple sclerosis, and Lyme disease.
Macro dosing CBD
The third category is the macro dose, also referred to by healthcare professionals as a “therapeutic dose”. With the quantity ranging from 20 to 800 mg per day, the dosage depends primarily on the physical condition and pathologies of the beneficiary. Remember, before considering any therapy, it’s essential to consult a health professional. The Mayo Clinic Research Institute, ranked as the U.S.’s best hospital by News & World Report's 2019–2020 list, has developed a guide for dosing CBD by various pathologies, including: - Chronic pain - Severe sleep disorder - Movement problems due to Huntington's disease - Multiple sclerosis symptoms (MS) - Schizophrenia - Glaucoma - Epilepsy
CBD DOSING Step By Step
Our bodies react differently to cannabinoids, and so there’s no such thing as a perfect dose. Rather, the right way to find your own sweet spot is to start small and adjust over time as you observe how your body reacts. The dosage depends on a person’s physiognomy, pathologies as well as weight. While some of the effects of CBD may manifest themselves instantly — such as anxiety, sleep disorders — other pathologies such as epilepsy must be treated over time. Still, as you embark on this personal journey, there are guidelines that can be helpful. For example, in the graphic below you find a good model for a one-month trial period (which is a good timeframe to consider) to find your ideal dosage.
CBD percentage and milligrams matter
When first starting out, a longer-term progressive increase is the safest way to go. First, you need to consider that the amount of CBD in each drop varies greatly between products. For example: - 2.5% CBD oil: 1.25 mg of CBD per drop - 5% CBD Oil : 2.5 mg of CBD per drop - 10% CBD Oil: 5 mg of CBD per drop - 20 %CBD Oil: 10 mg of CBD per drop‍
Finding the right delivery method For my CBD
Beyond oil, there is a multitude of ways to deliver CBD to your body. Picking a method can be a matter of personal taste, but you should also consider adapting your product to the desired effect. Here are a few options:
CBD Oils and Tinctures
Starting with drops, these extracts are some of the most common and effective ways of administrating CBD. Holding the drops under your tongue for up to a minute before swallowing also allows the CBD to be absorbed into the bloodstream without being broken down by metabolism. CBD administered sublingually typically goes into effect between 10 and 30 minutes. It’s also one of the more versatile delivery methods, as CBD drops (with all their flavors) can be a nice addition to any meal or beverage if you don’t mind waiting for longer (30 to 90 minutes). The duration of CBD oils and capsules is typically 4 to 6 hours.
CBD Inhalation
Similarly, vaping and smoking also bypasses the digestive system and give a rapid effect (5 to 15 minutes). Some common methods are vape pens and inhalers. This is a great option if you are looking for truly immediate effects. This is our recommendation if you have trouble falling asleep. However, the duration is much lower than oils and edibles with a duration of 2 to 3 hours.
CBD Topicals
Creams, sprays, massage oils, and balms are good options if you want to target a specific part of your body. For example, applying massage oil to an inflamed area can reduce swelling and pain, while improving movement. It has also been proven to reduce muscle soreness from exercise. Topical or transdermal CBD activates in 1 to 3 minutes and lasts 4 to 6 hours.
Edibles
CBD-infused foods or beverages have a more delayed effect on the body and mind as they must pass through the digestive system before being absorbed into the bloodstream. Typically, it takes about 30 to 60 minutes for the effect to come (although it depends on the type of food.)

Consistency is Key when it comes to CBD
Just like anything in life, the more you put in to your CBD ritual, the more you get out. We recommend using a notebook to write down your experience and to give your body 2 to 3 weeks of adjustment before making any final judgements on your experience.
CBD dosing example for one month
Now that we’ve covered some CBD dosing 101, let’s summarize with a simple example: ‍Elena suffers from a sleeping disorder, and has been recommended by a health professional to try CBD oil for a month-long period. She’s been advised to start with a small dose, and increase the dosage incrementally until reaching the desired effect. Elena weights 55kg and uses an oil containing 10% CBD. Remeber: CBD Oil 10% = 5mg per drop. She takes her CBD oil during her nightime ritual at 10pm every evening, one hour before her desired bedtime of 11pm. ‍Start low week 1: - 55kg low dose = 10mg - 10mg = 2 drops ‍Ramp up week 2: - 55kg medium-low dose = 25mg- 25mg = 5 drops ‍Continued increase week 3: - 55kg medium-low dose = 40mg - 40mg = 8 drops ‍Peak dosing week 4: - 55kg medium-high dose = 60mg - 60mg = 11 drops After week 3, Elena sees a big improvement in her sleep quality so decides to stick with 8 drops per dose.
